Andree Smalls the Director of Operations at LEC. This was our inaugural event for what will hopefully become another annual signature program for the chapter. Thank you to MAA Brother Jamie McCallop who was one of the originators of the concept to conduct this event designed to honor our Veterans by providing professional business attire for those transitioning from active military to civilian careers.

Brother McCallop is still on active duty in the US Army and recently transitioned from Southern California (via Kansas) to North Carolina.

Thank you once again Brother McCallop for your service!

We collected numerous articles of clothing that will be distributed through our community partner:

Working Wardrobes https://workingwardrobes.org/

Brother Alvin Hayes and his jazz trio set the tone with several OWTSTANDING sets of excellent music.  Food was catered by Medocino Farms.  Special thanks to all that supported this event with donations and attendance. Our efforts will be appreciated by Veterans and others in need.

MAA made a $1,000 donation to the Boy Scout of America Troop 1803.  The troop is a primarily African-American Scout Troop based in Orange County, California. There are currently 11 young men serving as Scouts and are between 11 and 18 years of age. Scouting reinforces their duty to God, duty to country and duty to themselves. They are very active in the community doing such activities as helping the disabled with yard maintenance, handing out food baskets during Thanksgiving and a host of other activities.

The money allowed the Scouts to experience outdoor adventures that included:

Camping

White Water Rafting

Mud Run Obstacle completion

Archery

Horseback riding

Sporting Events

MAA $1,000 to WISEPlace in the name of Kathie Bowman to help create room at WISE Place that will honor her for her 22 years of service at the women’s shelter.

WISEPlace, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, is a community of housing and hope for women in crisis. Formerly the South Orange County YWCA, WISEPlace has a 90-year history of caring for the community. By meeting basic needs such as housing, clothing, physical and emotional nourishment, as well as vocational and life skills training, the WISEPlace Hotel for Women is one of the few places unaccompanied homeless women can go to begin again.
