I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.

We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. We have to change that.

Christ Second Baptist is led by Senior Pastor, Brother Welton Pleasant, Mu Alpha Alpha Chapter Chaplain.

Jayshawn Brown, a young diligent and responsible 12th grade student, attending Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Eastvale, California. I was born in Long Beach, raised in Lakewood by a hard-working single mother.

I have a deep passion for advancing my education and knowledge. I am committed to taking the steps necessary to achieve and attain my academic success. Academically, I have always gravitated towards Science and Language Arts, but have been able to exemplify my academic success throughout all my subjects and classes, earning honor roll every year of my life, and maintaining a 4.0 gpa for the last two years of Highschool.

In addition to my academic experience, I have involved myself in a variety of extracurricular activities such as volunteering at a boy’s home, working at Farmer’s Boys, as well as, being involved in the AVID and UMOJA programs at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. These opportunities allowed me to explore my interests and develop important leadership and teamwork skills. With the help of these extracurriculars, I have had the privilege to network with knowledgeable individuals and strengthen my real world thinking. These experiences have not only increased the value of my high school experience, but have also instilled in me a sense of responsibility and dedication to serving others.

This responsibility and dedication to serving others has led me to pursue a career in nursing. I see nursing as a way of giving back to the African-American community. Being someone that is able to provide, assist, and relate to other African-Americans in the medical field is important to me.

I am excited about the awaited possibilities for the advancement of my education. With a greater understanding of the power that education and knowledge holds, I am committed to pursuing my academic and personal goals with determination and perseverance.
